Freelance Division
Many more journalists now work freelance than once did. About a third of the Institute’s members are attached to Freelance Division which makes it quite a strong driving force within the CIoJ.
Members of the Division range from those who work sessions for just one or two employers to home-based workers who sell their wares to dozens of different clients during the year. As well as journalists, the Division has members who are photographers, broadcasters and artists.
The Division publishes its newsletter, Freelance News, several times each year to keep members up to date with news, views, products, events and anything else which is likely to be of interest to freelances. The latest editions can be downloaded by clicking on the links on the right of this page.
The Freelance Directory, which is published annually, lists member of the Division and gives information about their specialisms and interests as a means of helping them to get work. Every year hundreds of copies of the Directory are sent to potential publishers and other clients.
From time to time the Division runs training or other events at which CIoJ freelance members can get to together to learn and to network.
The Division, which has its own constitution, is managed by a Chairman and a committee of 8 all of whom are elected annually by the membership.
