"Marie Colvin covered real humanitarian horror all over the world, but said Homs was the worst she had EVER seen. RIP heroine".

While working as a press officer for a house builder I frequently found it useful to enquire from a reporter whether his or her local newspaper was bound by the PCC's Editor's Code of Practice. This usually was sufficient to ensure balanced reporting on locally controversial developments.
On a couple of occasions I also found that the same question resulted in national broadsheets changing their story in line with the facts before printing.

I hope part of the commercial revenue generated by the newly launched global iplayer by the BBC will be apportioned to the threatened services namely Arabic and Hindi section.

The worldwide patronage of these services regarded as trusted and reliable clearly justify its salvage and maintenance at a reasonable or may be at any cost for that matter. It is as much a matter of pride and prestige for the BBC as it is an indispensable service to mankind throughout the world today. The BBC World Service has to survive the onslaught of the new media and the environment dictated by the austerity measures.

Excellent news that the Institute has woken up the British Government to the problems faced by the international media in Egypt. Like any weak government, the outgoing government of Hosni Mubarak blamed the unrest of the Egyptian people on foreigners and in particular on the foreign media. Unfortunately, many believed this propaganda and in several cases attacked foreign journalists and stole or destroyed their equipment.
Now the previous government has been sacked and Mubarak has resigned as President of Egypt, the Institute should contact the temporary administration put in place by the army, say how vital is a free national and international press to any country, and offer help in reorganising the media in Egypt.
Pressure should be maintained on the UK government that it use its influence to ensure that under the temporary Egyptian government and then under a democratically elected government, Egypt ensures that its own media is free and that journalists from other countries are given all the facilities they need to report what is happening back to their own countries.
Keep up the good work, Chartered Institute of Journalists!

Only yesterday I was filming from a public street a collapsed building with persons trapped I was stod at the side of the road along with all the onlookers with a video camera clearly marked as GPSJ TV still I was asked what I was doing filming and warned not to film the person being removed from the building, later as the person was removed the police pushed everyone further and further back and they deliberately along with fire personel blocked my camera view even though I was over 200 yds away as I complained to their press officeon the phone an officer assaulted me be grabbing my jacket with both hands and throwing me back into a parked fire engine hitting my head and camera, i was simply stood on the street and had moved back when asked. These so called public servants are really trying to stop the press doing theie work it's not as if it was a public order problem or I was giving the copper any verbal etc.

See video and article.
